Nominet, the company who manages all domain names ending in .uk (such as and, are introducing the shorter in summer 2014.

Owners of existing (and other domain names ending in .uk) will be offered the shorter version and will have five years to decide whether they want to use it.

Where versions of the domain are owned by different people, for example and, the new shorter domain name will be offered to the registrant.
